My question is; Why do you really want to bring your jwellery here? Why not keep in some safety locker (bank) in India. Is it attractive to walk around with huge gold chains/bangles in the US? Also we have been hearing about burglaries in Indian households becuause of easy access to gold.
Buy gold and keep it in locker in India. Come here with some "duplicate gold" and live free.:D:D:D

Once you I140 is approved, you lock the PD. Only time you lose it is, if USCIS cancels it for fraud.

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation. [Applause]
Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the Emancipation Proclamation. So we have come to cash this check -- a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God's children. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.
It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of the Negro. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force. The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny and their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone.
And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall march ahead. We cannot turn back. There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We got our mexican visa (going to mexico on vacation for 10 days) two weeks ago in Raleigh, NC. It was a breeze. I got a list of things that they wanted to see including
1. passport
2. US visa or approved I-797
3. Proof of residence in US (house tax bill etc.)
4. Air itinerary
5. Completed visa application form
6. 2 passport size photos
7. $36 per person visa fee
The process was fairly smooth. I was able to get my passport with visa the next day. My friends went a week later early in the morning and were able to get their visa with an hour and half on same day.

I think the reasons may be a little more subtle than mean spiritedness and malice. Makes me wonder how performance is evaluated at the USCIS. If their evaluation system is such that a large number of applicants in backlog looks tacky on their report card, then that's incentive enough for them to not want a deluge of applicants.
by now everybody might have heard stories about how USCIS pulled staff and worked overtime and weekends to utilize the 60k visas in one month to prevent the july 485 filings.
What I am wondering is why did they do it. One obvious reason is the incresed fee comming into effect from July 30 2007. In addition to it what are the other reasons.
Is there any agenda within USCIS to prevent people from getting EAD and ac21 benefits?
Is USCIS filled with anti immgrant mentality who have takem upon themselves to make our lives difficult?

Why is it that people who have filed after me have already received their notice and had checks cashed? I thought it is based on when the application is received is how they process- I am freaking out thinking that my application fell behind a desk somewhere....

Febperm, I just did a search in google "USCIS Appeal bachelor" and I got those decisions based on bachelor degree concern.
I demanded for a copy of the Appeal from the lawyer and the company also agreed. In that my lawyer firstly argued Bachelor of Commerce (3yrs) and NIIT qualifies for 4 year US Bachelor, so I should be granted the I-140 based on EB3 "Professional" Category.
Secondly, If USCIS does not agree with Bachelor or equiv based on my education, they also argued that based on the the experience in the same field, I should be granted based on EB3 "Skilled" labor category, thus making case to approve labor in that category.
Becausee it is difficult to convince USCIS that 3yrs Bach or India and NIIT diploma would be considered under Professional Category, I think in my case, I have a chance to get it approved on the basis of "Skilled" Labor.
But i think one has to be mindful to ensure the language of the appeal should be in-line to the labor certification, any inconsistencies makes it difficult to argue as seen in the link i attached in my previous post.
What I would like to know is, what are our options if they Deny the appeal (for cases in Appeal in EB3 and not on EB2).

I got my EAD in 2007 (thanks to the floodgates that opened in July). Now I am planning to move to a different employer in a much better role. The future employer is a startup, and is a little hesitant on transferring H1B, but will file for my labor in EB2 category and will work on porting my priority date.
That means, I will have to drop my H1 (valid through 2012) and will be on EAD. Is it possible to file for EB2 and port from EB3 later on, if H1 visa is dropped and I am in solely on EAD?

Here is my analysis.
Bulletin dates moves by six months as max jump for EB2 and 1 month for EB3.
Begining of New year in Oct, they conservatively pull back the numbers so as to flush out pending apps.
Now since they have already flushed apps in June/July, in Nov they will move EB2 by six months and possibly either stop there or make it one full year by moving it by another six months.
For EB3, they like to get it stuck at mid year so Jun02.
Guys, give a thought to this trend and see if you can guess more accurately.
Well they approved EB2 2004 cases in Jul so that means that if there is not a flood of EB2 apps with PD before 2004 the dates should stay in 2004.
It does not need a attorney or spies. You just need to work up the numbers.
I did this only for INDIA. Any chinese can complile it for China.

It depends on the "Employment Agreement" and the state laws where your employer is based. Many times such agreement mention "damage amount" if the person leave before the expiry of such term.

Another important thing whole EB2 and EB3 classification is , it does not matter how much experience or educational credetials a benificiary has. The job should require it too...
