It'd be great to get some more IVians to express their opinions/ideas and vote on this thread:

The idea being bounced around is whether IV should be made an organization funded by membership dues, and benefits provided to members only.
The benefits:
- Logistics: Members identified/verified, not anonymous
- Communication: Improved one-to-one communication rather than hunting for information in forums. Perhaps even a newsletter updating you on what's going on, what's being planned, what are the activities.. and action items.
- Funding: Sustainable funding for lobbying efforts, media relations, etc.
- Live Nag-Free! No one asks you what you've contributed in every second post, you don't have to wear the ID tag of your contribution amount around your neck to prevent such questions
- Community: Be part of a community with a national presence, with local chapters.
- Legal advice: Get free legal advice in monthly/quarterly/periodic conf calls/webinars
- Jobs: Job postings or referrals on IV members-only site
- Business opportunities: Come together with other IV members to explore common business opportunities
- Myriad other benefits that memberships in professional organizations come with, such as travel discounts for instance.
The down-side:
- We may lose about half of our "members"
- Others???

For all Premium Processing cases, the service center first sends a fax to the number provided in the I-907 premium processing request form before mailing the hard copy of the RFE. So your lawyer/employer might have already received the fax...Check with them...

I am currently working as Programmer Analyst for a company who is currently doing the GC. I have been with them for about 7 years.
Starting next month I am going to use my H1 7th year.
I am pondering about a new offer Firmware Engg. My GC detaisl are below:
PD: 06/2003 -- EB3
Education: MS
I am planning to stay in H1B, if possible with the new employer. But thinking of doing PERM and see if I can port my earlier date during I-140 filing.

Not been following the dates these days. Would be nice to have this info..
1) How much time does it take for the EAD application to get processed (Texas Service center) for new EAD (not an extn)?
2) How much time does it take for the AP extension to get processed (TSC) if I were to apply for an extension of my old AP today?
Thanks all for your inputs.
I would anticipate EAD to be processed in max of 3 months and AP in 2 months.
Would also add a buffer of 2 weeks (just in case).

I called the embassy and the staff member told me that I would have to go to the nearby DHL office in LIMA and drop all the documents. And then the embassy would get back wihin 4-10 business days.
This is really dicey for me since the Christams holidays could push this ahead.

I am trying to get a green card for the US. My parents are from east asia and I was born in Canada. I went to University in Maryland from 1992-96 and obtained my dental license. I am licensed in the US and intend to purchase a dental office soon. I will still be keeping my dental office in Canada for at least 1 year once I am able to work in the US. I heard about a investment visa however I am not investing more than $400k but it will employ at least 4 US nationals(ctizens). Can I still use the investment visa or can I get a visa for opening a secondary dental office in the US and still keep my existing office in Canada until I qualify for a green card. My wife filed for her I-140 on 7th July 2006, I asked the lawyer for the receipt on 20th July, Instead I got the I-140 APPROVAL on 29th July. I read it twice to confirm it was the approval notice not the receipt:)

I have a PERM filed on Nov 2006. and it is approved. Like most ppl here I also applied for I-140 & I-485 during July and got the receipts. I am looking to change companies using AC21 by next Jan but would like to keep my H1B active.
I have the following qns:
a. If I find a new employer(B) who is willing to transfer my H1B, will I get extension 3 yr extension beyond 6 yrs based on my current employer(A)'s PERM and approved I-140.
b. I know that 3 yrs extension is possible with approved I-140. Is it possible with new employer also (the one who has nt filed ur GC ? Also Is 3 yr extn possible after filing I-485 beyond 6 yrs?

My husband was not given visa, VO never asked him any question and just stapled a paper to his passport to track his visa status online. I asked VO wheathre that means my husband was rejected, she said no just some delay, it takes some cases more time.
it has been one month since I did my interview in the consulate and nothing updated on that web site. My husband has his sister in USA with Green card. What do you think the situation will be? is it rejection or wil get visa later?

Sorry to say this but it is totally speculative. It may be It may not be. It may be someone elses I140. You have to think about a way to get it from the employer or USCIS.

Please let me know what could be the problem. On Apr25, my status changed to Case Received and Pending. Last Updated Date is 05/18.
When i contacted my employer, he says my petition is approved. But still when i find the status online, it's not reflected.
What could be the problem?
Any thoughts would be highly aprpeciated.

I am currently on EAD and am applying for extension using e-file. I had a question on what do we fill in for 'Current Immigration Status'. The closest I can think about (as per the options given) is : DA - Advance Parole (Dist Auth).
